Active Release Techniques (ART): Active Release Techniques is a combination of examination and treatment, individualized for the patient’s specific complaint, with treatment protocols involving some 500 individual moves. Dr. Miller – the only Master Certified ART provider in the Fox Valley -- received her ART certification from the New York Chiropractic College. Chiropractic medicine for sports injuries is well established and often allows for treatment to injuries without the need for prescription drugs. Understanding the types of training and range-of-motion activities used in organized sports opens a variety of treatment options for sports injury patients. Dr. Miller received and maintains her CCSP through the Logan Chiropractic College.
The most commonly used chiropractic technique; DT involves a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust in a precise place and precise direction to restore proper alignment and movement to the spine and joints. As spinal integrity improves, nerve tension is reduced and the body works better; think of it as an “energy shot” to the spine that your body uses to “right” itself. The direction, speed, depth and angle used is specific to the patient’s condition and is arrived at through Dr. Miller’s experience and understanding of spinal mechanics.
Combines a thorough analysis of the spine and legs. Subluxation (improper position or movement) of the vertebrae produces the appearance that one leg is shorter than the other. Using a well-established protocol comparing leg lengths, Dr. Miller can determine where the subluxations are located. The patient stands against a segmented “drop” table and is gently lowered into a prone position. Individual cushions, or “drop pieces” along the table support each area of the spine until the adjustment is delivered, when the drop piece gently gives way, reducing the pressure needed to move a specific segment of spine.
Treats the muscles that control spinal balance by releasing tension, strain and stress caused by injury, allergies, surgical trauma or sustained periods of overwork. Proper leverage, applied lightly at a precise spot will move the entire spine towards balance. This gentle but powerful technique releases deep muscle tension. Where strong pressure on the muscles often causes the body to tighten in defense, a light pressure generally results in deep relaxation. Dr. Miller uses LBT for infants and elderly alike as it is one of the gentlest and one of the most potent chiropractic techniques in use.
Incorporating the latest advances in orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic examinations, AM is a gentle, low-force approach that uses a series of isolation tests performed by the patient under the direction of Dr. Miller to determine where, when and how to deliver the adjustment. The Activator itself is a small, hand-held instrument which delivers a precisely measured, gentle thrust in a specific direction. In wide use since the late 1960s, AM’s gentle nature makes it suitable not only for the spine, but knees, shoulders, wrists, ankles and even the joints of the jaw.
CT is designed to realign the spine and relieve back disc pressure by applying a gentle stretch to the lower spine in concert with a series of repetitive movements and thrusts. Utilizing a special table, Dr. Miller places the patient so the upper body is supported by a fix section while the affected area rests over the fulcrum of a movable section. She contracts the joint on hand and uses the other to gently move the table downward, as well as side to side, creating traction and flexion motions. CT is commonly used as an alternative to back surgery or for surgical patients in the rehabilitation phase who want to improve their recovery results. CT also restores range of motion in the joints and muscles, thereby increasing flexibility and improving posture.
Proper nutrition is an essential part of preventive health care along with exercise, rest and chiropractic adjustments. Improper nutrition can affect nerve transmissions; the connection between certain vitamins, minerals and supplements on joint and bone health has long been established. Since chiropractic is a natural way of healing the body, proper diet and eating natural foods can help the body with the ability to heal itself. Dr. Miller can consult and advise on if, and which, dietary supplements might benefit a patient, as well as refer to a nutritionist or dietician. She received her nutrition certification through the State of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association.
Uses fingers instead of needles to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. For over 5,000 years this form of touch therapy has been used to relieve sinus conditions, eliminate tension and stress, and improve circulation, as well as treating pain and a variety of other symptoms. Dr. Miller uses this non-invasive form of acupuncture because of its effectiveness and many patients’ aversion to the idea of being stuck with needles. She received her Acupuncture Certification from Logan Chiropractic College.
